The website has evolved since its original design, with new features like workshops, a listserv, and an online brochure for the latest showcase. However, its core elements, layout, and content remain largely unchanged since June 2021.
Problem: New/Potential auditionees of BreakFree want to learn more about the team to see if they want to join.
Solution: Create a way to showcase the team so potential members get a grasp of what the team is all about.
Background
Why was it needed?
In the summer of 2021, BreakFree was preparing for an in-person school year after students were sent home due to COVID-19. With limited on-campus presence, a website was needed to reintroduce the team and raise awareness both on campus and beyond.

Site Map
When I first was designing the layout from scratch, I made a site map to help me understand what information the user would need to navigate through in the most seamless and intuitive way.
Low Fidelity Sketches
I sketched potential page layouts based on the site map and used Squarespace’s editor to bring them to life. The sketches were key in guiding the design process.
Solution
High Fidelity
Prototyping looked a bit different as using SquareSpace, however I was able to design some pages inspired by the initial sketches from low-fidelity. Below are some screenshots of the original designs of the website.
Results
Since its launch in 2021, the BreakFree website has been home to the first online showcase brochures at Cornell University for dance teams.
I pioneered the online brochure, ensuring that is was mobile-friendly and interactive for users while they followed the showcase.
Since then, other dance teams at the university have adopted these online brochures over paper ones, saving trees and preventing waste.
